Littlehampton Branch Sea Sunday.12.08.07

Standard on ParadeThe last Sunday in July 2007 saw the Branch mustering with invited RNA Branches on the promenade at Littlehampton Beach. The occasion was to mark Sea Sunday, an annual event held in all types of weather and this Sunday was no exception overcast with heavy clouds but very warm. The Parade under the command of No.3 Area Ceremonial Officer S/M Fred Flood fell in awaiting the TS IMPLACABLE NTC Band. When all the Standards and Shipmates including the Chairman of Arun District Council Cllr Graham Tyler accompanied by his wife Diane, the Mayor of Littlehampton Dr. James Walsh and Cllr Emma Neno were mustered. With TS IMPLACABLE Band leading No.3 Area and Littlehampton Standards led the remaining eight Standards and the platoon of marching Shipmates the Parade marched off along the promenade towards East Pier.

Band take the SaluteBranch takes the saluteOn arrival at East Pier the Parade were dismissed and the Sea Sunday Service conducted by Reverend R Caswell began.   The Service attracted many tourist and sightseers who after enquiring what was going on joined in with the Service.   Prayers were said hymns sung, then led by Littlehampton RNA Chairman S/M Tom Harrison the Civic and RBL Dignitaries went aboard the Pilot Launch and wreaths were placed into the River Arun where under the watchful eyes of the RNLI the wreaths made their way out into the sea.   On completion of the Service the Parade reformed ready for the march past.  The Mayor of Littlehampton Dr James Walsh accompanied by RNA National Council Member S/M Peter Reed, RNA Littlehampton President S/m Phil Brown and the Littlehampton RBL President took the Salute.

The Parade then marched back along the promenade where they were dismissed.   The Shipmates then made their way to USC where refreshments were served by the Ladies of Littlehampton Royal Naval Association.
