Seaford Branch
Seaford Royal Naval Parade 24 April 2010
They came from Chichester in the west, Maidstone in the east and from Hertfordshire in the north, all in support of the Seaford Branch of the Royal Naval Association celebrating its Silver Jubilee.
On Saturday the 24th April, 2010 Seaford Town centre came to a standstill as the Royal Navy was in town. After rededicating the Branch Standard at St Leonards Church, a parade through the town to the Royal British Legion Club was led by the Royal Naval Band from HMS Collingwood, followed by the Area Standard
and 20 Standards from Royal Naval Association Branches, the Royal British Legion, various ship associations, the Fleet Air Arm Association, Submarine Association Newhaven and Seaford Sea Cadets and the Merchant Navy; and a platoon of ex-servicemen/women.
The salute was taken by Vice Admiral John McAnally, President of the Royal Naval Association. Also in attendance was Admiral Sir Derek Reffell KCB (Area 3 President) and the Mayor of Seaford, Councillor Tracy Willis.
Arriving at the British Legion, and following tradition, the standard bearers received their tot of rum, and as any matelot will tell you, not any old rum will do. The only one to have is PUSSER'S, this was followed by the cutting of a cake. While the participants were indulging in refreshments a raffle was drawn and a special thanks to donations by local businesses Mr Cycles Seaford, Roy's Liquor Shop Seaford, Morrisons Store, Seaford, Sainsbury's Store, Newhaven and B & Q in Newhaven, prizes were distributed.
Thanks are also due to the local Police Officers for their assistance in the closure of the roads to ensure everything went smoothly.
